Marcel Lagrange pleaded guilty to killing two people in a 2023 Westbrook parking lot attack witnessed by their children.

Marcel Lagrange, 26, pleaded guilty in Cumberland County Superior Court to the June 19, 2023, killings of Brittney Cockrell, 37, and Michael Hayter, 41, in a Westbrook parking lot near Main and Bridge streets, where their two young children witnessed the attack. Lagrange, who had no known prior connection to the victims, admitted to two counts of murder, aggravated attempted murder, and other charges, including injuring a 75-year-old man during a chase. He previously entered an insanity plea but withdrew it, citing strong evidence against him. The victims’ children, now in Texas, are recovering. A sentencing hearing is scheduled later this year, with the possibility of life in prison.
