Labour plans 9,000 homes at Heyford Park, part of 1.5 million new homes, with 40% affordable, to end housing stagnation.
Labour has pledged to build 9,000 homes at Heyford Park, a former military base near Bicester, as part of a plan to create 12 new towns across the UK.
The government, led by Housing Secretary Steve Reed, announced a “New Towns Unit” to fast-track development, focusing on infrastructure, schools, and green spaces, modeled on Stratford’s post-Olympic regeneration.
The initiative aims to deliver 1.5 million homes during the current Parliamentary Term, with at least 40% of these being affordable.
While Heyford Park is designated for development, initial work will prioritize sites in Bedfordshire, Leeds, and north London.
Environmental assessments must still be completed before construction begins.
The move marks a shift from what Labour calls 14 years of housing stagnation under the previous Conservative government.
