Ireland saw more foreign tourists in August 2025, but spending dropped 9% year-on-year.
In August 2025, Ireland saw a 1% increase in foreign tourist arrivals to 772,800, up from August 2024 and 5% from 2023, according to the Central Statistics Office, marking the first monthly rise since the start of the year.
However, tourist spending fell 9% year-on-year to €744 million, despite a slight increase from 2023, with the average stay declining to 8.6 nights.
Visitor numbers for holidays, family visits, and business trips all dropped compared to the prior year, and the tourism sector continues to face challenges, including reduced spending and rising costs, prompting calls for government support ahead of Budget 2026.
