India signed 27 maritime MOUs worth ₹66,000 crore to boost ports, shipbuilding, and green shipping ahead of its 2047 maritime goals.
On September 18, India signed 27 memorandums of understanding worth over ₹66,000 crore in its maritime sector during a ceremony in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, ahead of the 'Samudra Se Samriddhi' programme.
The agreements, involving public and private stakeholders, focus on expanding port infrastructure, shipbuilding clusters, green shipping initiatives like electric ferries, and port-led industrialization.
Key projects include a proposed 150 million-tonne-per-annum port in Bahuda, Odisha, expected to draw ₹21,500 crore in investment and create 25,000 jobs, and a ₹908 crore Water Metro Project in Patna, Bihar, introducing electric ferries and modern terminals.
A joint venture between the Shipping Corporation of India and major oil PSUs aims to reduce reliance on foreign shipping by pooling vessel demand and promoting Indian-built ships.
The initiatives support India’s goal of becoming a global maritime hub by 2047.
