Hertfordshire County Council is converting 1,293 streetlights from full-night to part-night lighting to cut carbon emissions and energy costs, with 949 key lights exempt.
Part-night lighting dims lights by 50% from 9–11pm, another 30% until 1am, turns them off until 5am, then restores them until dawn.
The change, combined with LED upgrades, has already reduced energy use by 53%, emissions by 77%, and saved £8.8 million annually.
