Hawaii honors victims of Michigan church shooting with flags at half-staff.
Hawaii Governor Josh Green has ordered state and U.S. flags to fly at half-staff from September 29 to October 1 in mourning for victims of a shooting at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
The attack, which occurred during Sunday services, left at least two dead and several injured, with the gunman fatally shot by police after driving into the church, opening fire, and setting it ablaze.
Gov.
Green expressed sorrow over the violence, calling it part of a larger national crisis and urging improved mental healthcare and an end to divisive rhetoric, while emphasizing solidarity with the affected community and the need for action on gun violence and public safety.
The flag salute applies to all state facilities and the Hawaii National Guard.
