A Florida mother is charged with trying to drown her three young children at a pool while livestreaming, citing personal distress and a recent dispute.
A 24-year-old Florida mother, Shaniece Willingham, is charged with three counts of first-degree premeditated attempted murder after allegedly attempting to drown her three young children—aged 3, 2, and 8 months—at a community pool on September 24, 2025, while livestreaming on Instagram.
Authorities say the incident followed a dispute with the children’s father, after which she was asked to leave her mother’s home.
Willingham reportedly called the father, who declined to help, then took the children to the pool, livestreamed a message calling it her “last goodbye,” and said she felt unable to care for them and believed they would be safer with God.
Prosecutors allege she tied herself and the children together with a rope and pushed them into the water when she saw a vehicle approaching.
Family members who saw the stream rushed to the scene and rescued the children, who suffered significant injuries.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister described the act as deliberate and cruel, not a cry for help, acknowledging possible mental health issues but stating they do not excuse the violence.
The case has drawn national attention, underscoring the urgent need for mental health support and child safety resources.
