Egypt aims to complete its first nuclear power plant, El Dabaa, by 2029, with the first reactor expected online in 2028, according to Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat.
The project, developed with Russia’s Rosatom, includes four 1.2-gigawatt reactors, with Rosatom managing design, construction, fuel supply, training, and storage.
Egypt may expand the plant after the initial phase.
Rosatom is also advancing nuclear cooperation in sub-Saharan Africa, including potential floating reactors in Ghana and a development plan with Ethiopia.
