Delhi High Court grants bail to South African man after 4 years in custody in heroin case.
The Delhi High Court granted bail to Quentin Decon, a South African national, after over four years in custody in a 2021 drug trafficking case involving the alleged recovery of 10.5 kilograms of heroin at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The court, citing excessive trial delays—only six of 14 witnesses examined—and the risk of serving a full sentence without conviction, ordered release on personal bond with a solvent surety.
Though the prosecution argued a statutory bail bar under the NDPS Act and raised flight risk concerns, the court concluded that prolonged detention warranted bail.
The case remains under review.
