The National Consumer Helpline has received about 3,000 complaints since the implementation of reduced GST rates on September 22, 2025, with consumers alleging retailers are not passing on tax benefits due to misleading discount practices.
Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare confirmed the complaints are being forwarded to the CBIC for action.
The government is monitoring cases closely, using AI and chatbots to track unfair pricing and deceptive practices, and may pursue class-action measures if widespread violations are found.
The revised rates followed the GST Council’s decision on September 3.
