China sentences 11 to death for running a transnational crime ring from Myanmar, linked to the Ming family, resulting in 14 deaths.
On September 29, 2025, a Chinese court in Wenzhou sentenced 11 members of a Myanmar-based crime syndicate to death for running large-scale telecom fraud, gambling, drug trafficking, and human trafficking operations since 2015.
The group, linked to the Ming family in Kokkang, Myanmar, used armed compounds to control victims, resulting in 14 deaths and six injuries.
Five others received suspended death sentences, 11 were given life imprisonment, and 12 received prison terms of five to 24 years, along with fines and asset confiscation.
The case is part of China’s broader crackdown on transnational scams, supported by regional cooperation that has led to the repatriation of over 7,000 victims.
