A 14-year-old girl with a rare skin disease is supported by a women’s football team in a campaign to raise awareness and funds.
Bohemians FC’s senior women’s football team is backing 14-year-old goalkeeper Sophia Dawson, who lives with epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a rare and painful skin condition, in Debra’s Inside Out campaign.
Sophia, who plays for Donacarney Celtic FC, endures severe pain during and after sports, often needing help getting to bed, yet continues playing football with resilience.
Her determination has inspired teammates, including captain Rachael Kelly, who praised her strength.
The campaign, urging people to wear clothing inside out on October 22, highlights how minor fabric friction can cause debilitating blisters for EB patients.
Other advocates include Amanda Nugent, Ruaidhri Dwyer Nugent, and Layanna-Maria Aston.
The effort aims to raise awareness and funds for families affected by EB, emphasizing the condition’s physical and emotional toll.
