A Wisconsin police officer was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when a tow truck, pursued by multiple agencies across southern Wisconsin, crashed into their squad car during a high-speed chase that began just before 2 p.m.
The driver, 36-year-old Christopher P. Brugger of Madison, fled after being reported for reckless driving on Highway 51, leading to a pursuit involving Monona, Madison, and state law enforcement.
The truck drove over curbs, sidewalks, and through parking lots, crossed medians, and caused a sedan on its flatbed to fall onto the roadway.
The chase ended when the truck swerved into oncoming traffic and struck the police car.
Brugger fled on foot but was quickly arrested, facing felony charges including eluding and reckless driving, and had an outstanding probation and parole warrant.
