Thieves stole $1M in rare whiskey, including limited Garryana, from Westland Distillery in July.
Thieves stole about $1 million worth of rare whiskey, including 12,000 bottles from Westland Distillery in Burlington, Washington, in a July heist involving forged documents.
The stolen stock featured the limited-edition 10-year Garryana whiskey, aged in Pacific Northwest Garry oak barrels and previously ranked among the world’s top whiskeys.
The shipment, bound for New Jersey, never arrived, prompting an investigation by the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office.
Experts say the whiskey’s rarity and notoriety make resale difficult.
Westland, acquired by Remy Cointreau in 2016, plans to release 4,500 remaining Garryana bottles on October 18 and is strengthening security while urging consumers to avoid unofficial sales.
