Starmer denies creating a trust for a 1996 land purchase, saying he immediately gifted it to his parents for a donkey sanctuary.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has denied creating a complex trust for a seven-acre field he bought in 1996 for his parents, saying he gifted it immediately to them so his mother, who was seriously ill and had limited mobility, could continue caring for and seeing the donkeys she loved.
He told the BBC the land, near Oxted, Surrey, was purchased for £20,000 and used as a donkey sanctuary, with his father building a wheelchair-accessible porch to help her interact with the animals.
Starmer said the arrangement was personal, not a tax-avoidance strategy, and confirmed he sold the property in 2022, stating legal title had remained with him until then, but the land was never held in a trust.
He dismissed claims of a complicated structure as implausible for a modest plot housing four donkeys.
Starmer niega haber creado un fideicomiso para la compra de tierras en 1996, diciendo que inmediatamente las regaló a sus padres para un santuario de burros.
