South Africa re-elected to ICAO's Governing Council, boosting its role in global aviation policy.
South Africa has been re-elected to Part II of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Governing Council at the 42nd General Assembly in Montreal, Canada, on September 27, 2025.
The decision, confirmed by the Department of Transport and welcomed by Minister Barbara Creecy, reflects global confidence in South Africa’s contributions to aviation safety, security, sustainability, and environmental protection since 2003.
The country will now have enhanced representation in shaping international aviation policies.
Alongside Egypt and Nigeria, South Africa continues to champion African priorities through the African Civil Aviation Commission.
