Rear Admiral Vivek Dahiya, NM, took command of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet in a ceremony in Mumbai on September 28, 2025, succeeding Rear Admiral Rahul Vilas Gokhale, YSM, NM.
Commissioned in 1993, Dahiya is a navigation and direction specialist with extensive sea and shore experience, including command of the missile corvette INS Karmuk and guided missile destroyer INS Chennai.
He has served in key training and staff roles, including at the Navigation and Direction School and HQ Flag Officer Sea Training.
Prior to his new role, he was Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Staff Requirements) since November 2023.
Dahiya, a graduate of the Naval Academy in Goa and several defense institutions, brings over three decades of service to the position.
