Pembrokeshire has been named the top fell running destination in the UK by Blacks, scoring 8.84 out of 10 for trail quality and availability, with over 140 trails and 114 per 100,000 people. The rugged coastal and hilly terrain, especially in the Preseli Hills, offers challenging routes ideal for off-road running on steep, uneven ground. Gwynedd and Cumbria ranked second and third, with the top ten also including Conwy, Derbyshire, and Powys. Fell running demands specialized gear like grippy, ankle-supporting shoes, moisture-wicking layers, and lightweight waterproof jackets due to unpredictable weather. Pembrokeshire hosts events like the Coastal Path Trail and Ultra Running Festival, and has a growing running community.
