Pakistan's PM and military chief met Trump, offered rare earths to boost U.S. investment and reduce Chinese reliance.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, presenting a wooden box containing rare earth minerals in an effort to strengthen bilateral ties and attract American investment.
The meeting, attended by Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, highlighted Pakistan’s mineral wealth, including rare earth elements, copper, gold, and antimony, and followed a $500 million memorandum of understanding with U.S. Strategic Metals for a poly-metallic refinery.
The initiative aims to position Pakistan as an alternative to China in critical minerals supply, though extraction remains challenging in conflict-affected regions like Balochistan.
The visit also underscored broader diplomatic efforts, including promoting Pakistan as a crypto-friendly hub, amid shifting strategic alignments and U.S. efforts to diversify supply chains.
