Owls Head Light Station in Maine marked its 200th anniversary on September 10, 2025, celebrating two centuries of guiding ships through Penobscot Bay since its original 1825 lighting and 1852 rebuild.
The lighthouse, now automated and overseen by the U.S. Coast Guard, is maintained by volunteers from the American Lighthouse Foundation, who offer public tours and preserve its history.
Former keeper Gorham Rowell, who lived there from 1974 to 1976, returned for the event, recalling his time there as a lasting personal connection and describing the site as a source of strength.
