Nigeria launches free business registration for 250,000 SMEs to boost formal sector growth.
Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission and SMEDAN have launched a free business registration initiative to formalize 250,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises, removing fees and intermediaries to boost access to finance, government support, and markets.
The program, part of the government’s economic growth agenda, aims to improve business sustainability, expand the tax base, and strengthen the formal sector.
It builds on a 2024 effort that registered over four million businesses, primarily through fintech partnerships.
The drive concludes before an upcoming fee review, with SMEDAN providing training and support, while the government also raised the small business tax exemption threshold.
