A new Hopewell Regional Visitor Center is being built in Yoctangee Park, Chillicothe, Ohio, on the site of the former Parks & Recreation Service Center near Mulberry and Riverside streets.
The Ross-Chillicothe Convention & Visitors Bureau will operate the 6,500-square-foot center, expanding from 1,500 square feet, with a $5.4 million project aiming to stay under $4.2 million using state funding.
The city will lease the land to Ross County for $1 over 100 years, with construction expected to finish by late 2026.
The building, featuring a single-slope roof, observation deck, and self-serve kiosk, will include exhibits from regional historical groups and may include storm shelter features.
The project is part of broader park renovations, including a relocated baseball diamond, new pavilion, pickleball courts, and a splash pad funded by congressional support, though not included in initial ACGP plans.
Public input remains encouraged as final details are finalized.
