Mayor Adams suspends re-election bid amid scrutiny and funding denial, leaving three candidates in November race.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has suspended his independent re-election campaign, citing media scrutiny and a Campaign Finance Board decision to withhold public matching funds despite his $4 million in fundraising.
The move follows a federal judge allowing the CFB to review Adams’ dismissed 2024 corruption case involving charges of wire fraud, bribery, and conspiracy, which were dropped by the Justice Department, denied as a quid pro quo with the Trump administration.
Adams, who ran as an independent after skipping the Democratic primary, emphasized his commitment to finishing his term and serving the city, though he did not endorse any candidates.
His withdrawal leaves Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and independent former Governor Andrew Cuomo as the main contenders in the November 4 election.
