A man is in custody after allegedly attacking vehicles with a metal pole and attempting to seize a police officer’s gun in Northeast Portland on September 27, 2025. Officers responded to the scene near Interstate 84, located the suspect near Oregon Park, and confronted him around 10:30 a.m. A nearly seven-minute struggle ensued, during which one officer applied a neck hold—classified as deadly force under department policy. The suspect did not lose consciousness and sustained no significant injuries, but was hospitalized for evaluation. Two officers were injured, one with a head injury and another with a hand injury. The officer who used the neck hold has been placed on paid administrative leave as detectives investigate the incident, which is being reviewed by the Portland Police Bureau, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, and the Police Review Board. Authorities are urging witnesses to contact detectives.
