The Travancore Devaswom Board president confirmed that gold-plated copper plates from Sabarimala Temple’s Dwarapalaka idols were sent to Chennai for repair under court orders and proper procedures, with a minor delay in notification noted as a procedural issue.
The plates, which lost 4.542 kg in weight due to copper erosion—not gold removal—used only 364 grams of gold.
The TDB recovered two missing plaques from a relative of the original sponsor, who had kept them after they were returned in 2019 due to size issues.
The recovery follows a High Court probe amid political controversy.
The upcoming pilgrimage season is expected to draw 60 lakh devotees, contributing ₹600 crore annually to the TDB, which supports over 1,200 temples and nearly 40,000 families.
