Florence Welch survived a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy after performing while severely ill in August 2023.
Florence Welch, lead singer of Florence and The Machine, revealed she nearly died in August 2023 during a live performance in Cornwall due to a ruptured ectopic pregnancy causing severe internal bleeding.
Despite feeling unwell and being advised by her doctor to get a scan before the show, she continued performing, later discovering she had a “Coke can’s worth of blood” in her abdomen.
Emergency surgery followed, requiring removal of a fallopian tube.
Welch described the experience as life-threatening and emotionally devastating, crediting her doctor’s insistence on medical evaluation with saving her life.
She has since used her platform to raise awareness about ectopic pregnancies, which affect about 1 in 90 UK pregnancies and can be fatal if untreated.
Welch, who turned 39 in 2025, has continued her music career, performing with Taylor Swift and preparing to release her new album, Everybody Scream, on October 31.
