Extended reserve duty in Israel's war has strained military marriages, harmed children's mental health, and left many families lacking adequate support.
A new report from Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics reveals that extended reserve duty during the Iron Swords war is severely impacting military families, with 50% of spouses reporting marital strain and about a third considering separation or divorce.
The stress worsens with longer service, affecting children’s mental health in over half the families, especially those with more children.
Most spouses—61%—said they needed support, primarily emotional or financial, with many turning to private mental health services due to limited public aid.
While 87% received some compensation from the National Insurance Institute, many, including divorced women and single mothers, reported not getting full benefits.
Family and friends were the main support source, but official assistance from the IDF and local authorities remained low.
El prolongado servicio de reserva en la guerra de Israel ha tensado los matrimonios militares, dañado la salud mental de los niños y ha dejado a muchas familias sin el apoyo adecuado.
