An elderly British couple died by suicide at a cliffside, choosing to end their lives together due to illness and devotion.
An elderly couple, David Jeffcock, 80, and Susan Jeffcock, 74, died after jumping from a 180-foot cliff in Whitby, North Yorkshire, holding hands.
David, who had been battling bone cancer and severe pain, and his wife, who cared for him without children, chose to end their lives together.
They left a note for their solicitor expressing regret over the shock but affirming Susan’s wish to accompany David.
The couple, married for 52 years, had moved to Whitby in their 60s seeking peace and were known for their deep devotion.
Their nephew said the decision was carefully considered, driven by David’s deteriorating condition and Susan’s inability to face life without him.
The inquest into their deaths, ruled as multi-trauma, will resume next year.
