Delhi police arrested Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati over sexual harassment allegations and fraud linked to a Delhi institute.
Delhi Police have arrested Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, a former spiritual leader and institute chairman, in connection with allegations of sexual harassment against female students at the Sri Sharda Institute of Indian Management.
Authorities recovered two forged visiting cards from him, falsely claiming he was a Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations and a Special Envoy of India and member of the BRICS Joint Commission.
The arrest followed a complaint filed on August 4, leading to a case registered on September 23 after statements from 32 female students, 17 of whom alleged abuse, threats, and unwanted contact.
Police also found evidence of financial fraud, including forged documents and multiple bank accounts under aliases.
The Sri Sharada Peetham had revoked his powers in 2008.
Saraswati, who checked into a hotel in Agra under the name Partha Sarthy, is set to appear in court.
