Abu Dhabi-based Global South Utilities inaugurated Chad’s first large-scale solar plant, the 50 MW Noor Chad facility in N’Djamena, on September 28, 2025, providing clean energy to about 274,000 homes.
The project, completed in record time, includes a 5 MWh battery storage system, 81,000 solar panels, and 158 inverters, built with over 350,000 safe work-hours.
It is expected to cut over 1.36 million tonnes of CO2 emissions over its lifetime and reduce reliance on imported diesel.
GSU, the developer and operator, called it a transformative step toward sustainable energy in Chad.
