UK ends Work Capability Assessment, affecting 50K+ disabled people’s benefits.
The UK’s Department for Work and Pensions is ending the Work Capability Assessment, potentially affecting over 50,000 disabled people’s access to financial support, according to Citizens Advice. The transition to a new system raises concerns about inaccurate eligibility decisions and disrupted aid during the shift. The DWP continues assessing around 53,000 people monthly for the limited capability for work and work-related activity payment, which provides £423 a month to those exempt from job search requirements. New claimants from April 6, 2025, will receive a reduced rate of £217, though existing recipients retain the higher amount, which will rise with inflation. Reassessments of current recipients remain low despite plans to increase them.
