A Pakistani court denied extended detention for Baloch activists, ordering jail transfer after six months.
An anti-terrorism court in Quetta denied the Counter Terrorism Department’s request to extend the physical remand of Baloch Yakjehti Committee chief Mahrang Baloch and four other activists, ordering them transferred to jail custody instead.
The ruling, issued by Judge Muhammad Ali Mubeen, marks a shift from repeated police custody after their 15-day remand expired on September 26.
The activists, arrested in March on charges of inciting violence and attacking Quetta Civil Hospital, have been detained for over six months under the Maintenance of Public Order law and related charges.
Their legal team argued the detentions were politically motivated, while the government cited security concerns.
The court’s decision comes amid criticism over new anti-terrorism amendments in Balochistan that activists say enable state repression.
