A new East Auckland flyover opened early, easing traffic and boosting public transit on the $1.3B Eastern Busway route.
A new flyover in East Auckland, part of the $1.3 billion Eastern Busway project, has opened ahead of schedule and under budget, improving traffic flow and supporting public transit.
The 600-meter flyover, named Rā Hihi, links Pakuranga Road and Highway, easing congestion at a key intersection and enabling dedicated bus lanes and walking/cycling paths.
It is part of a larger initiative to connect East Auckland with the city center via Waitematā Station, with full operation expected by 2027.
The project, funded by the government and Auckland Council and delivered by a public-private alliance, will eventually carry up to 24,000 daily passengers by 2048, support economic growth, create jobs, and integrate with the upcoming City Rail Link.
