A Minnesota couple faces manslaughter charges after their autistic daughter died trapped under a broken safety bed they failed to fix despite known dangers.
A Minnesota couple, Heather and Darcy Cross, face manslaughter charges after their 10-year-old autistic daughter, Cecilia, died August 25, 2025, trapped under a broken safety bed in their Pine River home.
Authorities found her body with signs of rigor mortis, in a severely unsanitary room filled with waste and a strong odor.
The bed, designed for children with autism and sleep disorders, had detached and unwelded poles, creating a dangerous gap.
Despite photos showing the damage two days before her death and ordered replacement parts not installed, the parents claimed the bed was safe.
Social services had previously engaged with the family, and a recent meeting turned confrontational.
The couple was arrested September 17 and now face charges related to child neglect and safety failures.
Their next court date is October 1.
