India’s river rejuvenation project has restored water security for millions, boosting supplies and farming across multiple states.
India’s water crisis is being tackled by The Art of Living’s river rejuvenation initiative, which since 2013 has reached 345 million people across 20,000 villages.
The project has built over 1 million groundwater recharge structures, removed nearly 29 million cubic meters of silt, and restored 59,000 square kilometers of land, securing 174 billion liters of water annually.
In Maharashtra, water levels rose 14 feet and crop yields increased 42% in some areas.
Similar successes have been seen in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Karnataka through recharge shafts, wetland construction, and river revival.
The effort, driven by community involvement and science-based methods, is transforming water scarcity into long-term security, improving livelihoods and ecosystems across India.
