India confirms LCA Mk2 uses GE engine, advances production and secures major fighter deal.
HAL Chairman Dr. DK Sunil confirmed India’s LCA Mk2 fighter jet is designed around the GE-414 engine, dismissing reports of French engine consideration.
Negotiations with General Electric are advancing, with six rounds completed and a seventh scheduled in October.
Despite U.S. tariffs, Sunil said they are not impacting talks, as GE ramps up production, aiming for 10 engines this year and 20 next year.
The 10th LCA Mk2 aircraft is built, and the 11th is ready.
Meanwhile, India’s Defense Ministry signed a Rs.
62,370 crore contract with HAL for 97 LCA Mk1A fighters—68 single-seat and 29 twin-seat variants—for delivery starting in 2027-28, with completion by 2032-33.
These aircraft feature over 64% indigenous content, including advanced systems like the UTTAM AESA radar and Swayam Raksha Kavach, supporting India’s defense self-reliance goals.
The project involves nearly 105 Indian vendors and is expected to generate around 11,750 jobs annually.
India confirma que el LCA Mk2 utiliza motores GE, avanza en la producción y asegura un importante acuerdo de combate.
