Hawaii’s Supreme Court is transitioning leadership as Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald retires at age 70, the state’s mandatory retirement age.
Effective October 1, 2025, Associate Justice Sabrina McKenna, the longest-serving active jurist in the state judiciary since 2011, will serve as acting chief justice.
She succeeds Recktenwald, who led for 15 years with a focus on access to justice.
Brandon Kimura has been appointed administrative director of the courts, replacing Rodney Maile, while Daylin-Rose Heather remains deputy administrative director.
