A groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 25, 2025, in Las Vegas for the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple, the fourth in the state and second in the valley, marking the start of construction near Hickman Avenue and North Grand Canyon Drive.
Presided over by LDS Church official Michael Dunn, the event included a dedicatory prayer and the symbolic use of golden shovels.
The temple, spanning nearly 20 acres with a three-story design, was approved unanimously by the Las Vegas City Council after overcoming legal challenges over height and land use, with an appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court pending.
In response to community concerns, the final design is lower and less illuminated than initially proposed, and it will not feature an Angel Moroni statue.
The project serves the growing Latter-day Saint community in southern Nevada.
