Ghana’s tourism growth is hindered by inconsistent service and poor experiences despite record 2024 arrivals.
Professor Kobby Mensah, CEO of Ghana Tourism Development Company, highlighted at the 2025 Hospitality and Tourism Conference & Expo in Accra that inconsistent service standards and poor customer experiences are hindering Ghana’s hospitality sector despite record tourism in 2024, which saw 1.288 million international arrivals and high revenue.
He cited issues like “Ghana man-time” and uneven service quality as barriers to creating positive visitor experiences and reducing tourist advocacy.
Persistent challenges include limited site access, regional disparities, and low private investment.
Mensah called for standardized operations, drawing from global best practices in personalization, technology, staff training, and sustainability to improve service quality and long-term profitability.
The conference, attended by industry leaders across Africa, aimed to foster collaboration and align Ghana’s hospitality sector with international benchmarks.
