Ghana to vaccinate 2.5 million girls aged 9–14 against HPV from Oct. 7–11, 2025, to fight cervical cancer.
Ghana will launch a nationwide HPV vaccination campaign from October 7 to 11, 2025, targeting girls aged 9 to 14 to combat cervical cancer, the country’s second most common cancer among women.
The free initiative, led by the Ghana Health Service with support from UNICEF, Gavi, and WHO, aims to vaccinate 2.5 million girls with a single dose of the Gardasil 4 vaccine, proven effective against high-risk HPV types linked to cervical, anal, oral, and penile cancers.
The campaign addresses stigma and misinformation, emphasizing the vaccine’s safety and lack of link to fertility or sexual activity.
It will use school-based and community outreach to reach out-of-school and hard-to-reach girls, aiming for 80% coverage to achieve herd immunity.
The effort supports global goals to eliminate cervical cancer by 2030, with the vaccine eventually integrated into routine immunization.
Ghana va a vacunar a 2,5 millones de niñas de entre 9 y 14 años contra el VPH a partir del 7 al 11 de octubre de 2025, para combatir el cáncer cervical.
