The arrest stems from Operation Wyvern, a probe into allegations that about $343 million in government contracts were awarded to nine companies in exchange for financial benefits. A public inquiry into the scheme, paused after six weeks, is set to resume on October 7. Former colleague Katya Wang testified she received $6,000 in cash from Helmy and stored it in a red envelope. Evidence included a video showing Helmy counting large sums of cash and claims that he and a co-conspirator misrepresented a workmate’s death to influence contract awards.
