Equinor completed phase 2 of its subsea compression project in the Norwegian Sea, boosting oil recovery to 90%.
Equinor and its partners have launched phase 2 of the subsea compression project on the Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea, completing the installation of the final compression module at 270 meters depth.
The upgrade, part of a long-term effort to maintain production by boosting pipeline pressure, enhances recovery from the Mikkel and Midgard fields to 90%, adding an estimated 306 million barrels of oil equivalent.
The system, operational since 2015, is the world’s first seabed gas compression facility and features modular, reusable components with high reliability.
The Åsgard license is led by Equinor with partners Petoro, Vår Energi, and TotalEnergies, while Mikkel is operated by Equinor with Vår Energi and Repsol.
