Delhi High Court questions legality of IRS officer’s defamation suit against Netflix’s *The Ba***ds of Bollywood*, citing procedural flaws.
The Delhi High Court has questioned the legal validity of a defamation lawsuit filed by IRS officer Sameer Wankhede against Netflix’s series *The Ba***ds of Bollywood*, directed by Aryan Khan.
Wankhede claims the show, which portrays a narcotics officer in a negative light, damages his reputation and undermines public trust in law enforcement.
The court found the current petition legally unsustainable and directed Wankhede to amend it to address procedural and substantive flaws.
The series, released in September 2025, features a scene interpreted by some as a critique of Wankhede’s 2021 role in the arrest of Aryan Khan during a cruise drug raid, which later led to the case being dropped due to lack of evidence.
Wankhede seeks Rs 2 crore in damages, to be donated to cancer care, and a permanent injunction against the show’s distribution.
The case remains under review, with no final decision yet issued.
