The Delhi High Court has granted Telugu actor Nagarjuna Akkineni protection for his personality and publicity rights, ruling against unauthorized use of his name, image, and voice in AI-generated content, pornographic material, and unapproved merchandise. Justice Tejas Karia emphasized the risks posed by generative AI and ordered the removal of 14 specific URLs, acknowledging the permanence of online content and the challenge of enforcement. The decision aligns with prior rulings protecting celebrities like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Karan Johar, reinforcing legal safeguards against digital identity misuse. Nagarjuna’s legal team cited concerns over AI training using his likeness, while the actor expressed gratitude for the court’s recognition of evolving threats in the digital age. The case remains pending, with a hearing set for January 23, 2026.
