A 21-year-old man, Tom Grindey, died in a high-speed crash on the A34 in Staffordshire after reportedly driving his BMW at 133mph during a series of aggressive trips between two roundabouts.
The collision occurred on the third lap when his car struck a Renault Clio attempting to overtake another vehicle, causing Grindey’s car to veer into a layby, cross a grass verge, and crash into a wooded area.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger, William Plant, testified at an inquest that Grindey was a thrill-seeker who drove recklessly, knowing there were no speed cameras.
Dashcam footage and police analysis confirmed excessive speed, with the car averaging 133.5mph over a short stretch.
Toxicology results showed no alcohol or drugs.
The Clio driver was not at fault, and no charges were filed.
Grindey, a Stoke City season ticket holder and car sprayer, was described as fun-loving and health-conscious.
