Whitebark Energy plans to drill for hydrogen, helium, and oil in South Australia, with results expected in 2026.
Whitebark Energy is exploring for hydrogen, helium, and hydrocarbons at the Rickerscote prospect in South Australia’s Officer Basin using high-tech sensors to guide drilling of the Rickerscote-1 well, expected to start in late 2026.
A Sproule ERCE report estimates up to 1.2 billion kg of hydrogen, 209 billion cubic feet of helium, and 153 million barrels of oil equivalent, supported by favorable geology including sandstone reservoirs sealed by salt and overlying radioactive granites.
Sensor data, due in October, will inform final well placement, while the company is testing water bores on traditional lands with the Maralinga Tjarutja people.
Whitebark is seeking a farm-in partner to advance the project, which could become a major basin-opener and significantly boost its profile if successful.
