The UK government seeks to block Huda Ammori’s legal challenge against the July 2025 ban on Palestine Action, citing an alternative review process.
The UK government is urging the Court of Appeal to block Huda Ammori, co-founder of the pro-Palestinian group Palestine Action, from challenging its designation as a terrorist organization in the High Court.
The ban, enacted in July 2025, makes membership or support a criminal offense punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
The Home Office argues that legal challenges should follow a statutory process through the Proscribed Organisations Appeal Commission (POAC), calling it sufficient and appropriate.
Ammori’s legal team counters that POAC is unfit for reviewing the initial lawfulness of the ban, especially given concerns over free speech, potential discrimination, and possible improper motives.
A High Court judge had previously allowed the challenge, finding two arguments “reasonably arguable.” Over 1,600 people have been arrested since the ban took effect.
The Court of Appeal, led by Lady Chief Justice Baroness Carr, is expected to rule soon on whether the case can proceed in the High Court.
