Starting October 1, 2025, Sikkim will open the Doka-La and Cho-La border areas to Indian tourists under the Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan initiative, requiring voter ID cards and permits via registered tour operators.
Visitors must book a one-night stay in designated villages, pay a Rs 1,120 fee covering conservation costs, and follow strict rules including vehicle limits, staggered departures, and waste disposal.
Only 1,400 cc or larger vehicles are allowed, with police escorts from Kupup and security provided by the Army and Sikkim Police.
Two-day packages cost between Rs 11,000 and Rs 12,000, and monthly visitor data will be reported.
The move balances tourism promotion with security and environmental protection near the India-Bhutan-China tri-junction.
