A Nebraska teen was charged with a felony after gun parts and ammo were found in his backpack at school.
A 16-year-old student at Lincoln Southeast High School in Nebraska was charged with a felony in juvenile court after disassembled parts of a .22mm rifle and multiple rounds of ammunition were found in his backpack on school property on September 23, 2025.
The discovery occurred in the visitor’s parking lot after a suspension meeting, when the student’s father searched the bag and reported the items to school officials.
The teen said the gun parts belonged to his brother and that he had attempted to assemble it but failed, claiming he collected them to prevent younger relatives from accessing them.
He denied any intent to harm anyone.
The firearm was not inside the school building.
The student was taken into custody and placed in the Lancaster County Youth Services Center.
Lincoln Public Schools confirmed disciplinary action will follow, and the Lincoln Police Department is continuing its investigation.
