Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has seen a surge in self-service technology use, with over 6.3 million passengers using the DigiYatra biometric system in 16 months.
From April 2024 to August 2025, more than 3.86 million boarding passes were printed at self-check-in kiosks, primarily by domestic airlines, while self-baggage drop units processed around 715,000 bags with an average time of 17 to 20 seconds per bag.
Adoption rates rose steadily, with domestic self-service use increasing from 5.26% to 6.28% and international use from 4.15% to nearly 14%.
DigiYatra e-gates and facial recognition pods saw monthly usage climb from 12% to 32%.
The airport’s modernized command center and AI-powered Aviio platform support real-time operations, while autonomous robots and smart washroom plans enhance service quality.
